The Best Letter of the Week Crafts for Preschool

In my classroom, letter of the week crafts are a favorite all year long. They go beyond being mere activities; they are my go to tool that make learning each letter fun and engaging for my students.

One of my favorite things to do is hang these crafts up on our bulletin board, so that my students can see the letter we are learning each week! Whether you teach preschool, kindergarten or are a homeschool parent here are some of the reasons you should add alphabet crafts to your lessons!

Benefits of Letter of the Week Crafts:

  • Enhances Fine Motor Skills: Cutting, coloring, and pasting each item helps children develop their fine motor skills, which are crucial for writing and other daily tasks.
  • Reinforces Letter Recognition: By focusing on one letter each week, children can better recognize and remember each letter, both in uppercase and lowercase forms.
  • Supports Phonemic Awareness: Associating each letter with a specific word (e.g., A is for Alligator) helps children connect letters with their sounds, enhancing early reading skills.
  • Promotes Independence: Minimal prep and simple instructions mean children can complete these crafts with little assistance, fostering independence and confidence in their abilities.
  • Creates a Routine: Establishing a weekly routine with letter crafts helps children anticipate and look forward to learning, creating a structured and predictable learning environment.
  • Facilitates Assessment: These crafts provide a tangible way to assess children's understanding of each letter and their ability to follow instructions, making it easier to track their progress.

How to Use Alphabet Crafts with Your Kids:

Whenever I am creating crafts to use with my own classroom I have two things in mind. One it needs to be easy for me to prep and two my students should be able to complete it without too much help from me.

With that being said, each alphabet craft was created for you to print out and give directly to your students to cut, paste and color. Each letter comes in a black-and-white or color options to feel your classroom needs. All you need to do is set up a craft center with scissors, clue and markers and let your students do the rest!

And of course each alphabet craft has to have a lowercase version as well!
