It’s that time of the year, the weather is cooling down and holiday events are popping up right and left. Both students and teachers know exactly how many days are left until school is out for winter break, regardless of any advent calendar.
This is not the time you want to be spending trying to come up with elaborate crafts that require lots of prep and class time to create. This time of year is perfect for quick and easy winter name crafts.
Benefits of Name Craft Activities
There are many benefits to doing name crafts with your students or children. Depending on their skill level, you may focus on just getting them to recognize their name and the letters that make it up. For kids who have that down, you can focus on letter sequencing and discussing capital vs lowercase (ex. “Don’t forget only the first letter of your name is a capital”).
Crafts are great for getting in that all-important fine motor skill practice with cutting and pasting. As we all know, cutting is an excellent exercise for those little hand muscles that will help make our kids excellent writers.
Another great benefit of these crafts is they make for an easy and cute bulletin board or classroom display. Is there anything a preschooler loves more than seeing their own name on display? Here are three low-prep name crafts that would work in any preschool or kinder classroom.
Winter Snowman Buttons Name Craft
What screams winter craft activity more than an adorable snowman? Students can cut and paste the letters of their names onto their snowmen. The template can easily be edited in PowerPoint and includes black and white, color, and extra pages for longer names.
For students who are confident writing their own names, you can also print the non-editable PDF that has blank buttons for them to fill in. Running low on time? Print the PDF with the buttons with the alphabet on them and you are good to go!
Hot Cocoa Name Craft
In this winter craft activity, kids get to play barista and make their own hot cocoa complete with their name floating in marshmallows. All you need for this easy winter name activity is scissors, colors, and a glue stick.
Students can either cut out the printed letters to their name or write their own letters, depending on if you chose to print an editable PowerPoint file or the ready-to-go PDF. This easy winter activity would be a fun one to include in your Polar Express day if your school has one.
Penguins on an Iceberg Name Craft
Who doesn’t love learning about penguins? Add this easy winter craft to extend your penguin lesson and let kids work on valuable letter recognition skills at the same time.
Just like in the other winter craft activities, you have the option to make this your own with either color or black and white and either editable or print-ready PDF options.
All three of these activities PLUS three more are included in my Winter Name Craft Bundle in my shop.
