Are you looking for new fine motor activities to do with your littles this Spring? Well, you are in luck, I have four easy set-up ideas perfect for this time of year!
Seed Fine Motor Center
The first activity is the seed fine motor activity, found in my Garden Week lesson plans. To set this one up, all you need are seeds (I use lentils instead- cheap and look the same), glue, and printed seed cards.
To minimize glue going everywhere I give the kids liquid glue and a paintbrush to trace the lines first. Bonus, they love using glue this way too!
Once they have the glue down, they use their fingers to trace the lines with their seeds. This not only makes for a cute craft but also pre-handwriting practice because they are tracing different types of lines.
Stem Trim
Activity number two, Stem Trim, is also found in the Garden Week plans. If you have been following along for a while, this fine motor activity might look familiar. That’s because we have done different variations throughout the year, we have also trimmed a leprechaun and Santa’s beard. It’s always a hit and great for those cutting skills!
For younger kiddos, you might want to try just tracing the lines first before pulling out the scissors.
Build a Flower
Time to bring out the playdough for activity number three! Build a Flower is not only a fine motor activity but also a fun way to work on color recognition and patterns.
For this setup, you can either print the flower petals from my lesson plans or head to my favorite place, The Dollar Tree, and pick up some fake flowers to pull apart.
Littles will choose a “Build It” card with a different flower combination or pattern on it and then recreate it with their petals and playdough center. Using their fingers to mold the dough and press the petals into it is great for strengthening their little hand muscles.
Flower Pot Playdough
The last fine motor activity is one I shared on TikTok recently.
All you need are some little pots (if you did my Build a Garden sensory bin you would already have some!), playdough and fake flowers.
@preschoolpackets Quick and easy activity for toddlers! Let me know if you try this one! 🌸 #homedaycare #toddleractivitiesideas #entertainedbaby ♬ Gorgeous - Taylor Swift
Little ones will play florist and create their own arrangements in the pots, with the playdough holding the flowers in place. Great for fine motor, super fun AND adorable decorations for the classroom!
